Random Trivia
- The comic is based on a short story I started to write in 2007 but never finished (it’s about two pages long XD). In the original short story told from Ripper’s point of view, Ripper was a man. Maire and Ate weren’t going to be part of the cast.
- Sarlissa was actually going to be a major character, but I got sick of her after drawing her 3 times and turned her into Eddie’s doll. In the short story male!Ripper rips her apart using his powers, however in the comic Ripper can only modify the shape of flesh and bone, not porcelain and other materials, so I had to have her kick her face in instead.
- I first drew Ripper as she shows up in the comic while waiting for my train to arrive. I dropped my pencil on my sketchbook above her left eyebrow, which is why she has a mole there now.
- Eddie’s name comes from sitting next to my boyfriend while he played Half Life 2. While drawing Eddie for the first time, the characters kept shouting “HEADCRABS!” which sounded like “HEADGRAHRS!” to me, which sounds a lot like Edgar.
- The word ‘ThemaoR’ doesn’t mean anything, it’s actually short for ‘The mighty adventures of Ripper’. This name came into being after I created the mock cover of the first chapter (which is the actual first chapter cover and was made with the intention of having Sarlissa as a major character, which is why she’s on it) and needed a title. I couldn’t come up with anything better when I started to draw the actual comic, so I decided to just go with it.
- The first five pages were drawn in late 2007, after which I didn’t draw anything much for over half a year (until I got my Cintiq <333). This explains the huge difference in quality. Maybe I’ll redraw them when I finally find a coloring-style I want to stick with >_>;
- Maire wasn’t going to be part of the comic until after chapter 1, however the first 20 or so pages were done without a script and she just showed up. Originally she was going to be a random treasure-hunter/pirate/hooker/gypsy with no relation to any of the other characters. In the comic she doesn’t have a last name, but when designing her I went for the lame last name of Knight.
- In page 16 Ripper says Edna and Garland were ‘damn goth hippies’ and it would be ‘like them to name their child after themselves’, while actually Edna and Garland were named after Edgar. Other potential names for them included Edith and Gary, but I thought Edna and Garland sounded more geeky and chose them.
More will follow when adding it here won’t be considered a spoiler!
